The Man: Murtala Safana!

Murtala Ibrahim Safana was born on 23/12/1960 in Safana, Katsina State. He attended Safana Primary School between 1967-1970 and Aya Primary  School Funtua 1970-1973 graduating from Primary School, he then went to Govt. Secondary Technical School Soba, Kaduna State 1973-1978 for his secondary School and proceeded to Kastina College of Arts, Science& Technology, Zaria between 1978-1980.  He went to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria between 1980-1983 and obtained a degree B.Sc. (Land Survey. He did his post-graduate M. Sc. (Land Survey) in the same institution between 1988-1990. He later obtained an Advance Certificate in Geographical Information System from Geographical Information System Academy Khartoum, Sudan in 2004.
Murtala did his Youth Service in Sokoto State Civil Service between 1983-1984. Upon completion of his NYSC, he started as a Surveyor II in Kaduna State Civil Service between 1984-1985 and then rose to become Surveyor I in 1985-1986. He was senior Surveyor in Katsina Between 1986-1987. Between 1990-1992 he was Acting Assistant Surveyor General in the office of Principal Surveyor General in Katsina.  By 1992, he became the Assistant Chief Surveyor in the Federal Capital Development Authority, (FCDA) and Chief Surveyor in 1995. He became Asst. Director (Survey) between 1998 and 2000, he was Zonal Manager Gwagwalada between 2000 and 2003 and then Asst. Director (Urban Survey) between 2003 and 2004. He was later appointed Deputy Director (Mapping) between 2004 and 2006.  He resigned from His appointment in 2006 to contest for Governor of Katsina State under the platform of PDP in 2006.
He contested in the PDP gubernatorial Primary in Katsina state and lost to Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema and later Joined ANPP to be the Running mate of their Gubernatorial Candidate in the April 2007 election.
Murtala is involved in so many community services and has earned recognition by so many Organizations and Associations in his native Safana Town, Katsina State, Northern Nigeria and the Country in general, among which are:

  • ·         Certificate of Honour by Katsina State Hospital Friend Association.
  • ·         Certificate of Appreciation by Soba Old Boys Association
  • ·         Certificate of Appreciation by Nigerian Student Union of Sudan
  • ·         Distinguished member Award by Soba Old Boys Association
  • ·         Dedicated Service Award by Katsina State Student’s union Kongo campus ABU Zaria.

However, during his work with Kaduna state, Katsina State and the FCDA, Murtala was involved in a lot of Projects which include:

  • ·         Officer Incharge of all Survey & Data Management on Phase 1 of FCT
  • ·         Member Ministerial Committee on Comprehensive Transportation System of FCT
  • ·         Zonal Manager Gwagwalada Incharge Administration of Management of Land in the Area Council
  • ·         Member Board of Trustees Marhazus-Sabireen

Murtala Ibrahim is happily married and blessed with Children. He is a well-travelled man, among the countries he visited include Sudan, Niger Republic, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Egypt, England, China, USA and Ethiopia. He loves playing tennis and Golf.
