NIGCOMSAT-1 and the Future of our Graduates

The Nigerian Communications Limited just launched the country’s satellite called NIGCOMSAT-1 in China on Sunday 13th May, 2007.This is a Great achievement by a country like Nigeria, a country that is developing in the field of ICT and Engineering. Also, the Managing Director of Nigerian Communications Limited, Mr. Ahmed Rufai told newsmen that the country is targeting to have 10 more fleets in the orbit before the NIGCOMSAT-1 expires by 2022. NIGCOMSAT-1 will bring a lot of development in the ICT, not only to Nigeria but to other Sub-Saharan African countries. I was pleased to see that Nigerian Communication Satellite is launched because there will be an employment opportunity for our graduates in the field of ICT and Engineering, I was thinking of the advantages of the Satellite when I discussed it with a friend who suddenly said to me that, “How many of our Graduates have the technical knowledge of using such a technology that Nigeria launched in China?”. I was listening to BBC News and just saw on the news bar that the guys who developed skype has done another invention. This time around, it is not making calls, but it is in what you see, the project was first called "The Venice Project", but they changed the name to "joost". Joost allows you to watch TV on the go (that is on the internet), from watching the Arsenal thrash other premiership teams to checking whats hots on the discovery channel, if u r bored during weekends, with joost, you will be entertained because you have come to the entertainmentworld, all you need to do is to grab your pop corn and sit by your system at home!!!
