Dangote, Zenith Bank sponsor students

Two-time national champions, Grays International Secondary School Kaduna will today [Monday July 31, 2006] leave for Shanghai, China, to represent Nigeria at the “Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship [SAGE]” Competition, courtesy of three Nigerian companies- Globacom, Dangote Group and Zenith International Bank Plc. The school was declared winner at the end of the competition held at the Women Centre, Abuja, on June 3, 2006 to select Nigeria’s flag-bearer to the Global Competition scheduled to hold in Shanghai, China, on August 3-6 2006. The June 3 event was the 4th National Championship held in Nigeria. The Competition was organized to provide Nigerian Youths with the opportunity of gaining confidence in entrepreneurial skills and the rudiments of small scale business. Rural telephony project to take off soon – Minister

Minister of telecommunications, Chief Cornelius Adebayo, has said that the first phase of the National Rural Telephony Project (NRTP), would take off in the country “any moment from now just as he said his ministry had started negotiating on the second phase of the project.Speaking in Lagos recently at a seminar, Chief Adebayo said the construction of exchange buildings and civil work to boost the project had been completed in 73 sites, located in 25 states of the federation. According to Chief Adebayo, installation of switching system and exchanges in 14 locations, spreads within 27 locations have also been completed.He revealed that construction of microwave towers is on at six locations “at the moment,” adding that twelve locations now have Optical Fibre Cable (OFC) and complete aerial networking.His words: “We have continued to make progress in the National Telephony Project (NRTP). FROM a modest seventeen (17 programmes at inception in 1983 by the former Kaduna State Government, the Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic (formerly Katsina College of Arts, Science and Technology and later Katsina Polytechnic) is now running fifty two (52). The People's Elephant on Sunday kicked off an impressive campaign by defeating Accra Hearts of Oak of Ghana at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium in their first group stage encounter of this year's CAF Champions League. For years, Katsina state has been known as the best state in the Northern Nigeria that concentrates in the field of Education and also one of the best in the country. But yet the state commissioned its first University which is owned by the Katsina Islamic Foundation. After the establishment of the University, and kicking off its Educational activities, Katsina state Government set up a committee that will submit a report on establishing a state owned University in order to boost educational activities in the state.
