Having access to the Internet is becoming a necessity in today's world, especially in the education sector. SolarNetOne Project is a collaborative effort spanning several continents, organizations, and technical disciplines, with the goal of developing a feasible, sustainable solution for providing public and private Internet access and related services to areas that do not have the benefit of a reliable power or communications grid. With experts in open source software, photo-voltaic electricity, internet infrastructure, and true internet pioneers on the SolarNetOne team, we have endeavored to design and implement systems capable of bridging the digital divide under the most difficult of conditions, and in the most open method available.
All equipments needed to have a solar powered Internet
It was first installed in Katsina state University, Katsina and as I am typing now, it is still functioning well, providing internet and other ICT services to the entire University. The university now have a SOLARNETONE RESEARCH CENTER, the center serves also as a Computer Lab to its Computer Science Students.
SolarOneNet setup and running on Ubuntu 8.04
SolarNetOne has both an Ethernet hub and Wi-Fi coverage within a two-mile radius. The eco-friendly project uses no more power than a 100-watt light bulb.The SolarNetOne has other features such as VoIP, IMAP/POP, SMTP and lots more features.
One good thing about this SOlarNetOne is that, individuals can buy it for their own personal usage, it costs $15K! I have already began saving some cash to acquire the SolarNetOne! Until then, stay back and enjoy your weekend!
